The beach at Seaham is renowned for its sea glass because for many years in the 19th century Seaham had the larrgest glass-bottle works in Britain.
At the end of each working day al waste glass was simply dumped in the sea and over the enduring years has tumbled and rolled in the surf and sea to produce huge quantities of smooth sea glass.
Collectors are a common sight with a number of local businesses using the glass in jewellery and art works.
